Middle Gate Works

Some of you may have noticed that the area around the middle gate was in need of some TLC.

The committee identified a number of requirements

  1. The main communal garden entrance has to be safe, wheelchair accessible and level for pedestrians of all ages and abilities.

  2. The paving slabs at the main garden gate have subsided, are loose and present a possible hazard.

  3. The surface has sunk locally and is uneven, due to the garden maintenance vans parking in this area.

  4. This area is not suitable for a van to park on and needs to be resolved with a long term solution.

Many thanks are due to our committee members Steven Fraser and Joyce Robinson for their efforts in sourcing tenders and planning upgrade works.

Proposed Works

CELLPAVE
  1. Remove old paving slabs.

  2. Bring the ground level up to match the stone coping you see in the gate picture on the far right above.

  3. Form a grass driveway using a Cellpave solution (see picture on the right ) . This is a strong supportive plastic mesh embedded in the grass so that vans can drive on it without damaging the area.

  4. Amend the entrance area to allow a wheelchair to move more easily over the stone cope at the gate.

The good news is that we have sufficient reserves that we can use to fund this essential work, without having to ask owners for an additional one off payment.

The work to upgrade this area is already underway. This week (Wednesday 27th April), new turf was laid which needs to bed in for @ 6 weeks, after which the Cellpave can be laid. The area with new turf is marked with cones and the middle gate is out of action to help protect the turf until it 'takes'.
